Flexible Guitar Lessons

A flexible method to build you a skillset you can apply to any genre.

Learning guitar should be more than just mastering scales and chords in isolation—it should be an enjoyable and enriching experience that builds your skills while allowing you to connect with the music you love. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to learn from brilliant teachers who gave me a strong classical foundation while encouraging me to explore other genres. From this, I’ve developed a teaching method that builds fundamental skills in a way that’s flexible, structured, and enjoyable—tailored to the student’s musical tastes.

What makes this approach unique is the deliberate sequencing of genres, each building on the last to layer your musical knowledge in a natural, intuitive way. We begin with classical guitar, where you’ll develop essential right and left hand techniques, focusing on finger independence, discipline, and precision. These classical techniques not only strengthen your playing but serve as a foundation that easily carries over into any other genre you wish to explore. If classical music is your passion, we can continue down this path, working towards mastering the Spanish guitar repertoire. However, if your interests lie elsewhere, this solid groundwork allows us to seamlessly
transition into other genres.

Why you should learn guitar with Nick

I am a modern and classical guitarist teacher and performer based in Brisbane, Australia. I’ve been teaching for +20 years and have worked and performed with some of Australia’s leading guitarists and artists including Anthony Garcia, Tyrone Nunan and William Barton.

Everyone picks up the guitar for different reasons and will want to achieve different goals. You may wish to be a classical recitalist, sing around the camp fire or rock out in a pub band. But to achieve each of these goals, you will need a different approach to learning.

I’ve developed a new, unique metholodology to teaching guitar that is structured so that you gradually build a set of skills that gets you to your end goal. Lessons however can be fluid and unstructured so we can cover those burning unanswered questions. Depending on your goals, we can take the following approaches;

Classical Guitar
Focused on learning the required knowledge and skills to perform the repertoire of the Spanish classical guitar. There is a strong focus on reading music, understanding music theory, developing left and right hand technique and analysis and performance of classical music.

Jazz Guitar
More theory based, with a focus on building a broader chord vocabulary (add 7ths 9ths 11ths and 13ths) mastering layers of performance and how to use them.

Modern Guitar
Not relying on reading music with a focus on developing a good ear and recognising the structure and patterns of more modern pop songs. Learning useful scaleshapes and patterns to help you play along with your favourite songs.
